BTS smashed their BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge debut this week. The 7-piece from South Korea performed a cover of Puff Daddy, Faith Evans and 112’s classic Notorious B.I.G. tribute song, ‘I’ll Be Missing You’, as well as live takes of their smash singles ‘Dynamite’ and ‘Permission To Dance’.
Whilst the original version of ‘I’ll Be Missing You’ draws on melodic elements of The Police’s 1983 hit ‘Every Breath You Take’, BTS’ live version adds a touch of contemporary pop to the glimmering instrumental, offering up a wholesome take on the tribute track.
‘Dynamite’, the band’s first single sung completely in English, came out in 2020, and has since smashed all kinds of records. More recently, the track clocked over one billion streams on Spotify, making them the first Korean musical act in history to do so.
‘Permission To Dance’, co-written with Ed Sheeran, was released as the B-side to the band’s most recent single, ‘Butter’.
