CHAI’s Tiny Desk Performance Is A Colourful And Chaotic Joy

Japanese indie-pop outfit CHAI stopped into the NPR offices recently to deliver a truly joyous Tiny Desk Concert. They began the visit in style, decked out in pom pom-emblazoned cloaks and performing a choreographed dance to their track ‘This Is CHAI’.

From there, though, the hoodies came off, and the four-piece ripped through a handful of tracks from both 2017 debut Pink as well as this February’s Punk – ‘Hi Hi Baby’, ‘N.E.O’, ‘Fashionista’ and ‘Future’ to close out.

It’s a real treat to watch. NPR’s Bob Boilen describes the performance as a “sweet, colourful blanket of joy” and that’s a pretty accurate summary.

You can stream the Tiny Desk performance via NPR below.

If you’re into what you see, CHAI are actually headed to Australia early next year, joining Mac Demarco on his January 2020 Australian tour along with West Australian rockers Pond. Check out all the details for that here.
