Belgian duo Charlotte Adigéry & Bolis Pupul will bring the tour behind their 2022 album, Topical Dancer, to Australia in March 2024. The pair are on the lineup for next year’s Golden Plains festival, which is happening on Wadawurrung Country in Meredith, Victoria, from Saturday, 9th to Monday, 11th March (the Victorian Labour Day long weekend.)
Adigéry and Pupul will perform a headline show at The Night Cat in Melbourne on Wednesday, 13th March and get on stage at the White Bay Power Station in Sydney as part of 24th Biennale of Sydney – that’s happening on Friday, 8th March.
Charlotte Adigéry & Bolis Pupul – ‘HAHA’
Adigéry and Pupul released their first collaborative album, Topical Dancer, in March 2022. The album was released on Soulwax’s DEEWEE label and sprouted the singles ‘Thank You’, ‘Blenda’, ‘Haha’ and ‘Ceci n’est pas un cliché’. Topical Dancer followed the pair’s debut EP, Zandoli, which came out in 2019.
Both Adigéry and Pupul have Martinican heritage. In Adigéry’s case, her Nigerian Yoruban ancestors were taken to the Caribbean as part of the Martinique slave trade; Pupul is descended from the first – and only – wave of Chinese immigration to Martinique.
Prior to working with Pupul, Adigéry made punk-influenced music under the name WWWater. She appeared on the Soulwax track, ‘The Best Thing’, from the soundtrack to the 2016 film, Belgica.
