Chet Faker’s Not Playing Splendour, Definitely Touring Soon

UPDATE 28/04/14: Three major new acts added to the Splendour 2014 lineup including Childish Gambino — full details here!

UPDATE 23/04/14: The full Splendour In The Grass 2014 lineup has been announced! Full details here.

Last week it was reported that Melbourne producer Chet Faker would make his third consecutive appearance at the Splendour In The Grass festival, after the artist allegedly confirmed his status for the 2014 bill to Purple Sneakers. Faker himself has now said that he is not booked for Splendour.

In the interview published by culture outlet Purple Sneakers, Murphy was supposedly asked about his history with the popular festival and if fans can expect a return this year. It was printed that he replied, “Yeah, for sure! – Isn’t the better question, when was the last time a festival booked the same artist three years in a row?”

The link to the interview with Faker, real name Nick Murphy, is still active on the Purple Sneakers website, however it now redirects readers to an edited or possibly different interview that makes no mention of Splendour In The Grass. PS‘ social media shares of the original link have been deleted.

In an upcoming interview for Music Feeds, Murphy says that while “Splendour In The Grass is happening,” he will not be be performing – “That is correct, I’m not performing at it this year.” In the interview, he explains that miscommunication “happens all the time” in the music industry.

While he will not be making his third consecutive Splendour In The Grass appearance this year, Murphy says that he will appear for some Australian headline dates “this year, hopefully.” Murphy added that the upcoming dates are “unannounced” and will take place around his birthday.

At the time, Murphy was reported as the second name to be unofficially confirmed for the 2014 Splendour In The Grass bill, after 21-year-old NSW producer Yahtzel‘s appearance was leaked via an official press bio, with the producer’s management later confirming his status to Music Feeds.
