Chet Hanks Is Either Anti-Vax Or A Lousy Comedian

Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson’s son Chet Hanks has posted a fairly inscrutable anti-vax rant to Instagram. It could be a miscued ruse, but either way, it’s not a good look.

Forgive my ignorance, but I tend not to spend too much time scrutinising the actions of Hollywood A-listers’ children. However, Chet Hanks’ latest Instagram post is a real head scratcher.

Hanks begins the self-filmed video in a solemn tone. “I’ve been kind of on the fence about this for a while, that’s why I’ve never spoke on it,” he says. “But with the amount of people that I know recently that have gotten COVID and with the numbers rising, I think it’s important for me to say, I got the vaccine.”

He then encourages his followers to do the same. “I think it’s really important that we all do this as citizens, as Americans. We have to look out for each other and get this shit under control guys. I suggest to all my followers you guys set an appointment and get the vaccine first thing.”

But the video takes an abrupt turn, with Hanks shouting “Psych!” before launching into what I’m sure his parents hope is a satirical diatribe.

“Bitch. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. I never had COVID. You ain’t sticking me with that motherfucking needle. It’s the motherfuckin’ flu. Get over it, OK? If you’re sick, stay inside. Why are we working around y’all? If you’re in danger, stay your ass inside. I’m tired of wearing a motherfucking mask.”

To be fair, Hanks’ Instagram handle is “CHET MF HANKS”, so anyone visiting the page looking for reliable social commentary has been forewarned. But outside of having anything constructive to offer, Chet’s decision to fan the flames of haughty ignorance is embarrassing, no matter the intention.
