CHVRCHES Unveil New Song ‘Warning Call’, Penned For A Video Game Soundtrack

Mirrors Edge Catalyst is a a new video game coming out next month, and Scottish band CHVRCHES have written a song especially for it.

The single, Warning Call, is unapologetically pop with a semi-futuristic feel. It features arpeggiated synth lines, a cruisey repetitive pop beat and layered processed vocals. The band have stated in a press release that Warning Call identifies with the upcoming video game’s “minimalist sci-fi dystopia”, and you can hear that in the tune.

The lyrics are written from the perspective of Mirrors Edge Catalyst character Faith, who is, according to the game’s website, “a daring Runner who uncovers a hidden truth within the walls of the city of Glass.” They were however, actually written by lead vocalist of CHVRCHES, Lauren Mayberry.

Believe it or not, this isn’t the first time CHVRCHES have rubbed shoulders with gamers. Last year they performed a song from their 2015 album Every Open Eye at The Game Awards 2015.

Band member Iain Cook stated in a press release, “We were honoured to be asked to contribute to the soundtrack for Mirror’s Edge Catalyst… we feel that the song complements the drama, emotion and empowering themes of Faith’s story.”
