Viewed by Clutch as a logical progression from the psychedelic blues sounds of 2007’s From Beale Street to Oblivion, Strange Cousins From The West is characterised by its riff-heavy jams, punk rock grit, chugging blues riffs, bombastic beats and the raw, unmistakable vocals of Neil Fallon.

Released on the 3rd of July 2009, Strange Cousins From the West is the first Clutch LP to be released on the band’s own independent label, Weathermaker. Recorded in their hometown with J. Robbins (Against Me!) at the controls, Clutch are showing no signs of abandoning the unique experimentation that has defined them and earned them legions of fans worldwide. From the swaggering rock grooves of The Amazing Kreskin to the combustible riffs featured in Freakonomics, Strange Cousins From The West commands attention and demands to be listened to, not heard.

Embodying the riff-oriented direction of the album, 50,000 Unstoppable Watts is the first single from Strange Cousins From The West. With its driving guitars, impenetrable rhythms and compelling vocals, 50,000 Unstoppable Watts is Clutch at their explosive finest. Since their formation in 1991, Clutch have always played by their own rules.

Shunning tried and tested musical formula for sincerity and evolution, each album serves as a bearing on the atlas of Clutch’s progressive trajectory. Strange Cousins From The West is the embodiment of Clutch’s only formula; to continue to grow and evolve musically while retaining their prog spirit.
