Daniel Johns’ Sensual ‘Aerial Love’ Gets A NSFW Video

Daniel Johns has released a fairly NSFW music video for his first-ever solo track, the smooth and soulful Aerial Love.

At first, the Aerial Love video (below) feels like it could easily be a shampoo commercial, thanks to its long-haired models, sand dunes and plenty of slow motion video.

In keeping with the slow-rolling beats, sultry vocals and mature themes of Aerial Love though, the track’s video sees a singlet-clad Johns slowly making his way through a dessert, as couples around him start to get a bit frisky. Johns makes it through the field of lovers unscathed, but he’s surely seen a thing or two.

The Aerial Love video was directed by Lorin Askill, who has worked on videos by Flight Facilities and Flume & Chet Faker. The clip was filmed on the Stockton Dunes just outside of Newcastle, and has been designed to mirror “the song’s weightless, timeless, slyly carnal feel”. The video employed the use of drones to capture aerial views of aerial love. Clever, right?

“The dunes actually looked spectacular but it was all pretty intense,” Johns says. “The whole idea was to capture big aerial perspectives by using drone cameras that can fly by remote control. The winds were too strong in the first 24 hours though so they couldn’t film anything.

“We finally started shooting on the second day but it was still 35 degrees in the shade and there were lots of sandstorms. It was like we were filming one of those desert scenes from Star Wars! I felt like I needed a droid.”

Aerial Love is taken from Johns’ upcoming four-song EP of the same name, which is set to drop on 13th March in preparation for his first-ever solo album.

The former Silverchair frontman first shared Aerial Love late last month, with fans divided over whether or not they dig Johns’ take on modern pop, which has seen him stray far from his days as a guitar-wielding grunge hero.
