Daniel Johns On Upcoming Silverchair Tribute Album: “I Didn’t Know What To Think”

Former Silverchair frontman Daniel Johns has spoken publicly for the first time about an upcoming Silverchair tribute album that’s been created by Australian music company Unified.

The album, titled Spawn (Again): A Tribute To Silverchair, will be released later this month, and features covers from the likes of The Amity Affliction, Northlane and Tonight Alive.

In a statement released today, Johns — who recently returned to our ears with his new band Boom Tish and their cover of an Easybeats song — says he wasn’t sure what to think of the Silverchair tribute initially, but came to enjoy the experience of hearing his songs being brought back to life in 2017.

“At first I didn’t know what to think of this album concept, I guess it never really dawned on me that a Silverchair tribute album would ever be a thing,” he says.

“It’s funny though, sitting down and listening to the tracks I felt a strange reconnection with these songs, most of them I wrote when I was a teenager. I appreciate the time these bands have taken to record these new versions of the tunes.”

Four songs have already been publicly released from Spawn (Again), with Northlane covering ‘Anthem For The Year 2000’, Hands Like Houses tackling ‘Ana’s Song (Open Fire)’, Tonight Alive performing ‘Without You’ and The Amity Affliction covering ‘Tomorrow’.

Spawn (Again): A Tribute To Silverchair was created with the blessing of the Silverchair team, and also features covers from the likes of Void of Vision, In Hearts Wake and Storm The Sky. The album is set for release this Friday, 17th November.
