EGOISM have formally revealed their debut studio album, entitled And Go Nowhere. The album is set for independent release on Friday, May 30th. It will include all three of the band’s 2024 singles – ‘Sydney’, ‘Getting Older’ and ‘Melbourne’ – as well as the recently-released ‘So I Heard’. To coincide with the album’s announcement, the Sydney indie-pop trio have also shared its fifth single.
‘New Friends’, which can be streamed below, was described by the band in a brief statement as being “our ode to the friends we should have left in childhood”. Its accompanying visualiser was made by Christine Yau, who creates under the moniker of @christ.psd.

And Go Nowhere follows on from the band’s two previously-released EPs: 2017’s It’s Wearing Off and 2020’s On Our Minds. Following the release of the latter, EGOISM released the singles ‘Lonely But Not Alone’ (2021), ‘For Ages’ (2022) and ‘2016-2018’ (2022). The album was co-produced by the band with Robby De Sá, a South African-born and Australia-based producer who has also worked with the likes of Gretta Ray, MAY-A, The Veronicas and 5 Seconds Of Summer.
As for the album’s grammatically-peculiar title, co-frontperson Olive Rush has explained that it stems from graffiti they saw on a bridge while riding their bike along the Hawkesbury River. “All the paint on the handrail was peeling off, and someone had scratched in big letters: ‘AND GO NOWHERE, TRUST ME’,” they wrote.
“My mind kept going back to the words engraved on the hand rail. We were fresh out of a lockdown where I spent 16 hours a day questioning every decision I’ve ever made, powerless to make any real change. But there I was: living back with my parents, in the same band and in the same place. The next day, walking across the Kings Cross Footway to Scout [Eastment, co-frontperson]’s apartment to spend the day writing music. I took out a paint pen and wrote the words.”
Next Friday (March 21st) will see the band support Teenage Dads at the Dee Why RSL alongside Mack The Knife. They are also set to perform at Funland Fest in Canberra, Ses Fest in Wollongong and two headlining shows: One at The Tote in Melbourne and one at UTS Undergrond in Sydney.
