Floodlights have announced a national Australian tour, set to take place in May 2025. It comes in support of their upcoming third studio album, Underneath, which is set for release at the end of the month. These shows will reportedly be the Melbourne quintet’s only headlining Australian shows of 2025, as they will spend the rest of it touring internationally. The full list of tour dates, as well as ticketing information, can be found below.
The band will be joined by various bands throughout the tour, including Newcastle post-punks dust in both Sydney and Brisbane, UK-based expat indie duo HighSchool in Melbourne and Tasmanian singer-songwriter Cathy Diver in Hobart. To coincide with the tour’s announcement, the band have shared another new single from it entitled ‘Buoyant’. In a press statement, lead vocalist and guitarist Louis Parsons noted that the song dealt with “aging, and how it can be tricky to reconcile with”.
“So often as a young person, you are quick to point out the flaws in the older generation; traits that have been instilled in them, but not in you,” he said. “It made me think: what will my generation be stubborn about, and will my views become outdated? And if they do, will I have the openness to change them and listen to new beliefs?” An accompanying music video has also been shared for the song, directed by Ava Clifforth and Henry Gosper, which can be viewed below.
Floodlights – ‘Buoyant’
‘Buoyant’ follows on from the release of three other singles from the 11-track LP: ‘Can You Feel It’, ‘Cloud Away’ and ‘The Light Won’t Shine Forever’. Underneath is the official follow-up to the band’s Australian Music Prize shortlisted 2023 album Painting Of My Time, which the band wrapped up touring in support of in April of last year.
