Explosions In The Sky Announce New Album ‘The Wilderness’, Share Lead Single ‘Disintegration Anxiety’

Post-rock four piece Explosions In The Sky have announced they’ll be returning with new album The Wilderness on 1st April. This being 2016, they’ve also shared lead single Disintegration Anxiety, a sparkly number which melds their long-term love of swelling crescendos with a more urgent and direct approach.

Set to feature nine songs in all and release via label Temporary Residence, The Wilderness will mark Explosions In The Sky’s first release since 2011’s Take Care, Take Care, Take Care, not counting their soundtrack work of course.

Their sixth album so far, The Wilderness was also the first time the band sought the assistance of an outside producer, bringing in John Congleton, who has worked with the likes of St Vincent and Spoon.

An official statement from the band explains that their latest work explores “the infinite unknown, utilizing several of the band’s own definitions of ‘space’ (outer space, mental space, physical geography of space) as compositional tools”. Whatever the hell that means I can’t tell you, but after listening to Disintegration Anxiety, it’s safe to say that fans will be happy.

Don’t just take my word for it though, have a listen to the track for yourself below. You can also pre-order the album here.
