Falls Festival To Return In 2022/2023 With New Victorian Site, No Tasmanian Edition

Falls Festival organisers have announced that, after a two cancellations in a row due to the coronavirus pandemic, the event will make its comeback in December 2022/January 2023.

When the beloved New Year’s Eve festival returns, however, it will be with a few changes. For one, after 27 years in Lorne, Falls Festival’s Victorian leg will relocate to Pennyroyal Plains in Murroon, near Birregurra.

Additionally, next year the festival will not hold an event in Tasmania, where it has run since 2003. Last year, prior to the festival’s cancellation entirely, organisers pulled its Marion Bay leg from the itinerary, citing “unprecedented times” and saying they had to “adjust our business operations to allow us the best opportunity for long term viability”.

At the time, they emphasised it was “not a goodbye, more a ‘see you soon’ to Tasmania”, however it’s unclear whether they have any plans to return to Tasmania after next year’s event.

In a statement today (4th November), promoters Jessica Ducrou and Paul Piticco said it had been a “privilege” to operate Falls Festival in their Lorne and Marion Bay locations over the years.

“We hope that our Lorne and Tassie Falls fam will join us at Pennyroyal Plains,” the pair commented. “Lorne is where Falls Festival started so we want to give a particularly special shout out to the locals there. You have been instrumental in making the festival all that it is today, and we’ll always be grateful to the community for their long-time support.”

Ducrou and Piticco called the festival’s new Victorian location of Pennyroyal Plains “truly special”. They continued: “We fell in love with its gentle topography and sweeping open spaces, which has created the opportunity for Falls to transform its new landscape into a deeper and more immersive festival experience.”

Falls’ Byron Bay and Fremantle locations will remain the same. Next year will mark the first edition of Falls Festival since 2019, which featured a lineup that included Halsey, Vampire Weekend, Disclosure, Peking Duk, Pnau, G Flip and more.
