UPDATE: The third Soundwave 2014 lineup announcement has dropped — full details here.
Industrial stalwarts and Nine Inch Nails affiliates Filter have confirmed via their official Facebook page that they will soon be heading Down Under as part of the Soundwave 2014 lineup. There’d previously been speculation over whether the band would be added to the stacked SW14 roster.
Finally quelling the rumours, which had been doused by news that the band was embarking on their own headline tour, taking them out of the running for Soundwave, the band wrote, “Hey Australia, FILTER is coming for you! #Soundwave2014,” accompanied by an an Australian flag.
Fans had long expressed a desire to see the Richard Patrick and co, who released sixth album, The Sun Comes Out Tonight, last year, head down for Soundwave, and after a dialogue was sparked between the band and festival promoter AJ Maddah, it looked as though it would happen.
“Your douchebag agent emailed me last week. Would be exciting to get you on #SW14. Hope we can make it work,” wrote the events mogul. Maddah had previously professed his love for the industrial outfit to a fan via Twitter, writing, “I love @OfficialFilter If they want on I’ll make it happen.”
After a journo from The Advertiser alerted Maddah to a Moshtix page advertising an upcoming Australian tour from the power duo that wasn’t listed on their website, a soured Maddah tweeted, “Wow. Wonder why the fuck they would bother wasting my time,” and wished the band good luck.
After Sevendust unceremoniously exited Soundwave last week, the war of words between Maddah and the band was momentarily interrupted by the promoter telling a curious tweeter that Sevendust had “just been replaced.” When a follower mentioned that Filter had conspicuously cancelled their upcoming tour, adding “Good work AJ,” a sly Maddah replied “They did, didn’t they?”
Prior to Filter’s self-confirmation, frontman Richard Patrick tweeted Maddah, writing, “Yo AJ Do you know someone from Quantas Airlines? I need a first class ticket? My backs [sic] f-cked up!” Stay tuned to Music Feeds and we’ll keep you updated on all the SW14 third lineup news.
