The group will bring their community-minded, independent brand of big-band soul, funk and unpredictability to the grassy lawns of the Addison Road Community Centre for a springtime evening of socially conscious and politically radical music and art.
Newcastle hip hop act, Dhopec, will perform a 45 minute political hip hop set during which a 1200mm x 4800m aerosol artwork will be created. Dhopec unites activists and inspires the socially conscious to cultivate passion for a revolution to stop runaway climate change and create an equitable society.
Day of the Meerkat describe themselves as ‘music to hump walls to’ and while we won’t have walls on the lawn of the Addison Road Community Centre you can kick back and enjoy their set of alternative, fucked-up rockabilly with just as much perverse enthusiasm.
Also performing at the gig is Billie Rose Prichard, a multidisciplinary hip hop artist and recent finalist in Marrickville Art Prize, whose work looks at the social impact of gambling, addiction and alienation, and vocal trio Daily Meds will bring their special blend of tongue-trickery and not-so-savoury sooth sayery to the Live Red Arts after party too.
The after party is set to provide a sunny springtime festival vibe, so expect cocktails filled to the brim with midori, face paint, socially conscious funk and hip hop music.
To mark the rise in popularity of the Greens at the recent federal election and to celebrate the progressive political shift, the theme of the party is ‘Greenslide’, so get imaginative and dress to impress in your ‘green’ Sunday best!
The inaugural arts festival featuring radical protest art from a variety of local independent artists is to be held at the Addison Road Community Centre in Marrickville on Sunday October 17th from 11am, with after party gala and free gig commencing at 3pm.
