Hail satan! Ghost fans: your demonic prayers have been answered by the black-robed clergy, with the band unleashing their first new material since 2015’s, Meliora.
Dubbed ‘Rats’ — or ‘Rrrrrrats!’ — the thrashy, operatic new hymn comes packing a darkly theatrical music video featuring some Phantom Of The Opera-esque satanic ballet staged amid a storm blood, rain and fire.
It represents our first taste of the band’s new album, Prequelle, which is set to hit our eardrums on Friday, June 1st.
Speaking about the Swedish heavy metal church’s forthcoming LP, recently unmasked frontman Tobias Forge AKA Cardinal Copia FKA Papa Emeritus I, II & III tells Revolver that the disc is “loosely themed around the concept of death and doom”.
“It’s a themed album around medieval times, but it’s definitely clinging onto a lot of very current things,” he profeses. “The Black Death [plague] is a great example of a turning point for a whole civilization. Complete villages were annihilated. Most people knew very little, so all of it was God or the Devil—and about their faith being questioned: Why are we being stricken down by this great scourge? It must be because of our not fearing God enough and all this superstitious bullshit.”
ICYMI: the band, who last toured Australia during the Big Day Out’s final run in 2014, previously revealed that they won’t be heading back Down Under again until after they’ve finished recording their new disc.
Maybe if we pray extra hard, we’ll get to catch them live again on our shores before year’s end.
Otherwise… Download 2019 anyone?
Until then, you can catch Ghost’s new music video for ‘Rats’ below.
