Gloria Gaynor is suing her former producer, Joel Diamond, for $2 million (£1.57 million) over alleged mismanagement and financial misconduct. The ‘I Will Survive’ singer claims that Diamond and his associated companies failed to fulfil their contractual obligations by not keeping her informed about how her work was licensed and used, while wrongfully benefiting financially from their relationship.
In the lawsuit, Gaynor accuses Diamond of concealing payments and falsely claiming ownership of several of her songs, including “I’ve Been Watching You,” “You’re All I Need to Get By,” and the iconic disco anthem “I Am What I Am.” She also alleges that Diamond listed himself as a co-writer on at least one song, despite the fact that she did not collaborate with him on songwriting.

Diamond has responded to the allegations, asserting that they are false and defamatory. He states that he is in the process of retaining legal counsel and that a 40-year-old written contract clearly outlines his ownership of the rights to the songs in question. Diamond contends that any contrary statements are baseless and he plans to pursue his legal rights to address the situation.
The lawsuit highlights ongoing disputes over the management and financial arrangements between artists and their producers and underscores the importance of transparency and proper contractual adherence in the music industry.
