You may recall that earlier this month, a Californian hardcore punk band by the name of WACKO played a show at a somewhat likely venue – a Denny’s fast food restaurant in Santa Ana.
As one might imagine, chaos ensued during the outfit’s 20-odd minute set, and the show’s young organiser Byrson Del Valle was left to foot the bill for damages to the restaurant to the extent of around $2,000.
“Denny’s is a family friendly restaurant and while we do have banquet space available at some restaurants, we do not allow events that can disrupt the dining experience of our guests. The manager was unaware a concert was planned, and the event organizers have been asked to pay for damages,” commented Denny’s in a statement to Eater.
A GoFundMe was started to help Del Valle, which managed to quickly cover the costs. One of the contributions came from a veteran punk outfit contributing to the cause, with fellow California punks Green Day donating $2,000 to the campaign.
The band left the comment “Hey Byrson, call us! We wanna play the Bastards Club. Love, Green Day,” and went on on to post a screenshot of their donation to Instagram with the caption “The kids are alright.”
