Harley Alaska Returns With New Single ‘Deja Vu’ – “There is Nothing Standing in My Way Anymore”

Viral bedroom pop artist Harley Alaska has released the new single ‘Deja Vu’. It’s the long-awaited follow-up to Alaska’s debut single, ‘Lose You Too’, which came out in September 2021 and earned the artist a doting international fan base. The new single comes with a video from director Madeleine Purdy – watch that below.

‘Deja Vu’ is a clean, crisp indie pop song that takes an ambivalent look at one’s present circumstances. “I loved the idea of writing a song about the saying, ‘right place, wrong time,’ but in a really tangible way,” Alaska said. “Like, this house is the house/the right place, but I can’t tell whether the time I’m here is the right one – and it’s messing with me.”

Alaska continued, “It’s like, when the person you’re with keeps reminding you of someone from your past, what does that mean? Is that a good or bad thing?”

A lot has happened for the Eora/Sydney-based artist since the release of ‘Lose You Too’. The song went mad on TikTok, stacking up more than seven million streams and four million likes on the app. Alaska then ended up in a Maybelline ad alongside Tash Sultana, Thelma Plum and Akosia.

More recently, Alaska was diagnosed with ADHD, which has had a “profound” impact on his life, and his songwriting. “Now I understand so much of my self-sabotaging was essentially the result of parts of my brain,” Alaska said. “Having that knowledge means I can allow more freedom in where a song goes and how I feel about it – to me, there is nothing standing in my way anymore.”
