The Harvest 2012 lineup second announcement has finally come. Today we’ve had an extension of what could be considered to be a very impressive lineup already, but now strengthened even more with the announcement of Dexy’s Midnight Runner’s, The Silversun Pickups, Crazy P, Dark Horses, River City Extension, Los Campesinos and Winter People.
Since the first Harvest announcement was made just over two months ago, the music-loving populous has been rippling with excitement over the calibre of the lineup revealed so far. The festival was launched in order to give Australians an event akin to the magnificent, natural environments paired up with your typical European music festival lineup.
Brought to you by the guys behind the popular metal/punk/hardcore event Soundwave, you just know there’s going to be a rich mixture of quality bands that you might never see visit Australia, let alone get them all here at the same time. It’s a very unique event, but one that’s been crying out to happen for a very long time.
The festival will have an arts programme, just like last year that saw over 400 artists participate across the three cities. Two unique virtual experiences were a part of that, which involved an interactive augmented reality art installation accessible via smartphones (iPhone, Android, Blackberry and Nokia). Inspired by notions of harvest, you could see animated 3D vegetables float around the festival site, expressing their emotions upon audience interaction.
This year’s event will take place on the 10th (new date), 11th, 17th and 18th of November, and will return to Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. Last year’s ticket sales were high, which saw the Melbourne leg of the tour sell out, and it is expected to do so in similar fashion this year.
