Hear A Sneaky Preview Of The Strokes’ New Song ‘Starting Again’

The Strokes have new music on the way, and we’ve been gifted a cheeky preview in a fairly unexpected place; a political campaign ad.

The rockers have recently thrown their weight behind Maya D. Wiley in the race for mayor of their home city of New York. As Pitchfork points out, not only have the band performed both a benefit livestream concert and an in-person concert just for her, they’ve now previewed their brand new song dubbed ‘Starting Again’ in an ad supporting her campaign.

Julian Casablancas co-wrote ‘Starting Again’ with Gregg Alexander from New Radicals, who also co-produced the song.

In a joint statement, the pair said:

“In an era of voter suppression and mega donors dismantling democracy, it’s crucial to remember New York City is too important to risk handing the reins of America’s most diverse metropolis to the same kind of party machine that’s controlled NY’s governance for most of the 20th century… one of Brooklyn clubhouse politics, big real-estate money, and mutual back-scratching. It is time we elect Maya as the city’s first woman mayor to make things better for ALL of our futures.”

No word yet on when the song will be released in full, but you can hear a cheeky preview in the ad for Wiley below.

It marks the first new Strokes music we’ve heard since their 2020 album, The New Abnormal.
