Hear ‘Squeeze Me’, N.E.R.D.’s First New Single In Four Years

Pharrell Williams and his fellow N.E.R.D. members Chad Hugo and Shay Haley have reunited for their first new track in four years. The new single is titled Squeeze Me and was written for The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out Of Water soundtrack.

The new single marks N.E.R.D.’s first new piece of music since their 2010 album, Nothing. The group reunited on-stage last month at Odd Future’s Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival in Los Angeles, which proved to be an emotional experience for superfan Tyler, The Creator who was caught on video weeping.

The single also follows Pharrell’s Grammy-nominated solo hit Happy, taken from the Despicable Me 2 soundtrack. Speaking of N.E.R.D.’s contribution to The SpongeBob soundtrack Hugo told Variety, “We’re trying not to think too much in a cartoon sense, but more just like a psychedelic, otherworldy type of thing. If you want to draw a parallel, maybe think of what the Beatles did with Yellow Submarine.”

Earlier this year, Pharrell Williams was joined onstage by Shay Haley during his iTunes festival headline set where they teased new material. “It feels good to be back in London. When we released our first album back in 2001 and first crossed the Atlantic, this was the first place to embrace us. You’re gonna like this shit we’re gonna release,” Haley told the crowd, via NME.

“There will always be an N.E.R.D.” added Pharrell. “I’m happy to be a nerd; the bullies lost, the nerds win”. Listen to the new track below.
