Here’s A Two Hour ‘Essential Mix’, Curated Entirely By The Avalanches

It’s been 15 years between albums for Aussie electrolords The Avalanches, and it’s been just as long between BBC Essential Mixes.

The last time the musical alchemists curated an episode of the iconic radio program was all the way back in 2001.

But following the release of their long, long, long-awaited sophomore LP Wildflower, the gang have finally returned for round two.

They took over the Essential Mix decks to crank two hours worth of their favourite tunes, serving up an eclectic playlist featuring the likes of Frank Zappa, Yoko Ono, Ratatat, Nina Simone, Uriah Heep, Paul McCartney, The Pointer Sisters, The Slits, Madlib, The Stooges, Paul McCartney, Bad Brains, and loads more.

You can listen to it for yourself here via BBC Radio 1, or else catch their old one – from December 11th, 2001 – below.

Meanwhile, The Avalanches recently released a colourful animated video for their Wildflower single Subways, after being announced on the lineup for Falls 2016/2017.
