Hockey Dad, G Flip and Kylie Minogue Herself Feature On This Weekend’s Episode Of ‘The Sound’

ABC’s live music show The Sound returns this weekend with a bloody ‘yuge lineup that includes performances from the likes of G Flip, Hockey Dad, Washington, Illy and more along with an interview with none other than our queen of pop, Kylie Minogue herself.

Hosted by Jane Gazzo with music news by Zan Rowe and special guest Myf Warhurst, this Sunday’s episode will also feature performances from Kian and D’Arcy Spiller, an emerging singer-songwriter who’ll play latest single ‘What in Hell’.

There’s a tribute to Australian icons The Easybeats by John Paul Young, Zach Stephenson, Shannen James and Maddy Jane, and archival footage from Yothu Yindi’s induction into the ARIA Hall of Fame back in 2012. Stacked, as usual.

“Back on an ABC pop show! It’s been 37 years since my last appearance on Countdown, it’s an absolute joy to be a part of the ABC’s ongoing commitment to Australian music,” commented John Paul Young about his appearance on the show.

Megan Washington, who’ll deliver a performance of the title track from new album Batflowers, filmed at Brisbane’s Old Museum, says, “I supercare about this beautiful opportunity to perform on The Sound. This is a time when art is so important, and I am so excited to give Australia three and a half minutes of dreamy fun.”

Launching last month, The Sound‘s previous episodes have seen stunning performances from the likes of Amy Shark, Angie McMahon, DMA’S, Paul Kelly and more. Filmed and created by Mushroom Vision, the weekly series showcases some of the country’s most exciting artists through exclusive, pre-recorded live performances along with collaborations and interviews.

Upon its announcement, Mushroom Group head Michael Gudinski commented, “I’m incredibly excited to realise my dream to see a music show featuring contemporary Australian music in a prime spot on free-to-air television.”

“I’m thrilled that ABC, the home of iconic programs like Countdown, Recovery and rage, have partnered with us to support local music in such difficult times.”

The Sound airs on ABC Sunday at 5.30pm, with an encore screening the following Saturday at 12.30pm. It’s also available to stream via iview.
