How Jetstar Almost Forced The Cancellation Of An Amity Affliction Show

Written by Nastassia Baroni on January 24, 2015

Gympie hardcore act The Amity Affliction have taken to social media to share how discount airline Jetstar put in jeopardy yesterday’s scheduled show in Cairns, where the band were supposed to perform alongside In Hearts Wake and Confession.

“We are very sorry to let everyone know, due to Jetstar Australia cancelling the only direct flight into Cairns today; In Hearts Wake and Confession will not be able to perform at our show at The Jack tonight,” explained The Amity Affliction in a Facebook post.

“For a long time Jetstar’s inability to reschedule the flight today had us thinking we would have to cancel the show also,” they add. “We have left no stone unturned in trying to get to Cairns as we have been looking forward to playing this show for a long time.”

According to the band, they managed to secure an alternative mode of transport with help from Independent Aviation but their tour-mates did not have the same luck and thus were replaced by local supports at the Cairns gig.

“To say we are disappointed that In Hearts Wake and Confession won’t be playing tonight is an understatement, we did everything in our power to get them there also but ultimately Jetstar wouldn’t reschedule the flight,” continues the post.

“Once again a massive thanks to Independent Aviation for making it possible for us to get there and we have nothing to say to Jetstar except — thanks for nothing!”

A Jetstar representative replied to the post in a comment, apologising for the flight’s cancellation and adding that, “Whilst we do try to get all flights away on time, this isn’t always possible due to operational requirements and our strict safety standards.”

Pending any more disruptions to rest of their scheduled flights, The Amity Affliction’s ‘The Weighdown Under’ tour with In Hearts Wake and Confession continues tonight in Townsville before making its way through South Australia and Western Australia. See the remaining dates below.
