Huge Hottest 100 Party Cancelled After Cheeky Warning From Police

An unofficial Hottest 100 party in Melbourne has been cancelled after Victoria Police issued a pretty cheeky warning on the event’s Facebook event page, which had over 6,000 people ‘Attending’ and over 20,000 ‘Interested’ before being shelved.

Local blokes Jai Motherwell and Clint White had planned a Hottest 100 party at St Kilda Beach for this Australia Day, but Victoria Police today crashed the event’s Facebook page (that’s its cheeky cover photo, above) in order to point out some issues.

“Hi Jai and Clint. This is Victoria Police,” reads the Facebook post.

“We know this party is not sanctioned by Triple J, so we’re assuming you haven’t got any permits from Port Phillip Council either? If that’s the case, we’ll pay you a visit on Australia Day and let’s hope we don’t spoil your party!”

Since Victoria Police’s post, triple j Breakfast hosts Matt Okine & Alex Dyson have extended their support to Jai and Clint…

...but the event has since been cancelled, with Jai editing the page to say he has spoken to Victoria Police and along with Clint has decided to shut down the party. "The numbers have blown way out of proportion and you can't trust 20,000 strangers to do the right thing," Jai says, before telling all the hopeful party-goers, "Please respect our decision and share around that the event has been cancelled. There are plenty of other parties in St Kilda for Australia Day." Finally, the cancellation led to this excellent comment: Triple j's Hottest 100 of 2015 will be revealed track-by-track on Australia Day, 26th January, with plenty of regular-size Hottest 100 parties going down in non-public places around the country. In the lead-up to the big day, The Tepid 100 has said it's "confident" with the Hottest 100 predictions it released earlier this week.
