Jack Daniel’s Proudly Presents: You Am I on Tour With the Glass Ceiling and the Shiny Brights for Round 1 of the JD SET!

Following two weeks of intensive voting, Jack Daniel’s is pleased to announce YOU AM I’s tour mates on the first round of THE JD SET for 2009 are Sydney’s THE GLASS CEILING and Adelaide’s THE SHINY BRIGHTS!

The first tour of THE JD SET in 2009 will kick off on Friday, 22 May at The Zoo in Brisbane before hitting Sydney and Melbourne then ending in Whyalla! To make the promise of showcasing some of the country’s finest new live talent in some of the country’s favourite venues even more appealing, Jack Daniel’s has announced that all dates will feature NO DOOR CHARGE!

Fans voted in record numbers in Round 1 and the race was neck and neck right down to the wire with THE GLASS CEILING storming ahead in the last week to take the No. 1 position.

It’s taken a little over a year for THE GLASS CEILING to establish themselves as one of Sydney’s newest and most dynamic indie rock acts and they’re relishing the chance to hit the stage with YOU AM I. “We’re really pumped for the tour!” guitarist, CJ Morello said, “To be able to open for rock legends like You Am I will be awesome, and those crazy Shiny Bright-ers are good friends of ours, so it sounds like it’s gonna be one long party!”.

Sharing the stage with YOU AM I is set to be another major highlight said THE SHINY BRIGHTS’ guitarist James Bartold: “We are ecstatic about this opportunity. Sure, we will have to take out comprehensive life insurance to keep up with them but couldn’t ask for a better band than You Am I to educate us on our first Australian tour. Due to severe musician’s poverty (it’s a common disease) the Eastern states are yet to see us play and at last we will have the chance. Thank you Jack Daniel’s!”

YOU AM I’s Rusty Hopkinson said the band was looking forward to taking the bands under their collective wing and thinks “that in ten years time any one of these groups could be either hugely successful rock ‘n roll stars living in mansions on the moon and practising skeet-shooting with their platinum records or they could be sitting in the pub with their mates from work telling them how they used to be in a band that once got to tour with You Am I and what a top bloke that Timmy Rogers was”. Either way, it’s not a bad place to start!
