Triple j unearthed wunderkind and general wonderful human being Japanese Wallpaper has begun teasing his next batch of studio goodies, wording up the j’s that a new single could be dropping as soon as next week.
Japanese Wallpaper, known by the government as Gab Strum, revealed to triple j’s Linda Marigliano that he’s worked the single into his live show, giving it a test run while he supports the great M83 nationally throughout some of our biggest venues.
“[I’ve played] mostly stuff from the last record and maybe a couple new songs as well. Actually got a single that’s finished and out in a couple weeks … I think next week”
Strum, who was behind last year’s mega hit Forces (Feat. Airling) has been quietly whittling away at his new music, occupying a studio space with the Grammy nominated producer Andrei Eremin. During the interview, he also mentioned that he’ll be putting himself front and centre on the new tunage, laying down his own vocals.
“I’m singing on all the new material as well, which is a little scary but it feels pretty exciting.”
This is great news for fans who have caught him at one of his many sold out headline shows, or even perhaps his Laneway performance where he’s started to incorporate his own vocals live – and homeboy’s got serious chops.
Earlier in the week, Gab teased a collab with our very own Allday. It’s not yet known if this will be the new single, but what is clear is that the next generation of Australian musicians have well and truly taken over.
Man I can’t wait to share what I’ve been working on with @alldaychubbyboy, getting the goosebumps rn
