Jon Stevens Charged With Assault On Fiancée Jodhi Meares

Noiseworks frontman and The Dead Daisies vocalist Jon Stevens has been charged with assault following an altercation with his fiancee, Jodhi Meares. An interim apprehended violence order (AVO) has also been placed on him.

Police told News Limited they arrested and charged Stevens at a property on Wolseley Road in Sydney’s Point Piper in the early hours of Monday, 9th February after reports of a domestic argument between a man and a woman.

Court papers say Meares declined to make a statement on the alleged common assault, while Stevens signed bail papers that morning, saying he would not “assault, molest, harass or interfere with the protected person”. Police noted that he had no criminal history and no previous history of violence.

An interim AVO was placed on Stevens by police on Meares’ behalf, in accordance with standard procedure, and it will now remain in effect until a court hearing into the alleged incident on 18th May.

While the extended AVO ensures that Stevens will not assault, stalk or threaten Meares, it does not prevent the two from associating with each other or indeed from even living together.

The pair were to appear in Waverley Local Court today regarding the matter, but neither Stevens nor Meares attended. Stevens cited medical reasons for his absence and provided a medical certificate to the court.

Meares, who is a former swimsuit model turned fashion designer, reportedly found emails from an ex-girlfriend of Stevens, and is said to have suffered some bruising to her wrists in the alleged assault.

Meares’ lawyer Chris Murphy said in a statement posted to Twitter (below) that his client “is totally without fear or concerns in relation to any future conduct by the subject of the application, John Stevens. I am also instructed by my client that there is absolutely no history of violence in the relationship between [Stevens and Meares]”.

Around the same time this incident allegedly occurred, Steven’s supergroup The Dead Daisies announced an unprecedented cultural exchange tour in Cuba, making them the first band to travel there since the US relaxed trade restrictions last year.

Stevens was not included on the band’s lineup for this tour, with the band telling fans on Facebook that Stevens is a “very busy man” and would be “working on his other projects during the time we’re there.”
