Kanye Responds To Billboard Awards Censorship, Says He Was “Set Up”

Representative for Kanye West have today issued a statement following his heavily censored performance at this year’s Billboard Music Awards, claiming he was “clearly set up” and thus his performance was “misrepresented”.

“Kanye West was grossly over-censored at the Billboard Music Awards,” reads the statement, via The Hollywood Reporter. “Non-profane lyrics such as ‘with my leather black jeans on’ were muted for over 30 second intervals. As a result, his voice and performance were seriously misrepresented.”

The statement isn’t exaggerating here. Between the trigger-happy censor and the crazy amount of pyrotechnics during Kanye’s Billboard set, the whole thing was a giant mess, filled with extended periods of complete silence and left many viewers at home wondering if their TV sets were on the fritz.

“It is ridiculous that in 2015, unwarranted censorship is something that artists still have to fight against,” continues the statement.

“Although West was clearly set up to face elements beyond his control during the live broadcast, he would like to apologize to the television audience who were unable to enjoy the performance the way he envisioned.”

ABC, the network which broadcast the show and is responsible for thee censorship, has not yet commented on the issue.
