Kaytranada Wins Polaris Prize For Best Canadian Album

Kaytranada’s 2016 album 99% has taken out the Polaris Prize given out to the best album by a Canadian artist each year, as selected by a jury of music journalists, bloggers and broadcasters.

He beat out artists including Drake, Justin Bieber who made the long list, and shortlisted artists Grimes, Carly Rae Jepesn, PUP and heaps more to take out Canada’s top gong for an album; which also comes with a nifty $50,000 US prize (over $65,000 Aussie dollarydoos).

99% was released via XL Recordings and included contributions and collaborations from Vic Mensa, AlunaGeorge, Andeson .Paak, Little Dragon and more.

Kay summed up his feelings about winning the award in a tweet, an unexpected prize for him to say the least.

Kaytranada’s tour of Australia kicks off in October 2016.
