Kendrick Lamar Just Dropped ‘To Pimp A Butterfly’ A Week Early

We were meant to still have a week to wait for Kendrick Lamar‘s new album To Pimp A Butterfly but in a surprise move it’s been released today.

Lamar wrote on Twitter, “Yesterday. March 14th. Was a Special Day,” followed by, “20 yrs. Later.” At that same time Lamar’s album became available to buy on iTunes. It was initially only available in the US store but is now ready to be snatched up by Australian listeners.

It appears that Lamar’s tweets were referring to 2Pac’s album Me Against The World which was released 20 years ago on 14th March and noted by many as his most prolific release.

It’s unknown whether or not Lamar planned to drop the album around the 20th Anniversary of 2Pac’s album or whether it was in response to reports that the album had leaked early. The clean version of the album was released first with the explicit version following soon after.

The album features the previously heard singles The Blacker The Berry and i. Album guests include soul man Bilal, rapper Snoop Dogg, bass player Thundercat and funk legend George Clinton.
