How Kendrick Lamar Turned A Diehard Fan’s Life Around

Reddit user GetGowenz has posted a feel good story about how Kendrick Lamar turned his brother’s life around after years of physical and emotional bullying.

The post explains how his brother Logan had spent nine hours waiting at the front of the stage for Lamar at Okeechobee Music Fest in March this year. Logan, who weighed over 300 pounds at the time and had admitted that “he was depressed” and “was giving up” on life, was singing every lyric to Lamar’s ballad which addresses issues surrounding depression.

The song had resonated so much with Logan that “2 days prior to this concert my brother had submitted an 1000 word essay for his college English class about this song.”

Then, during the song, Kendrick noticed Logan singing and called him to come up on stage. He then took some time in the middle of the song to address the audience and talk about the crippling reality of mental health issues like depression.

“Logan had no clue what to do and thought that he was asking for someone else,” said his brother. “A few friends he made at the concert helped push him over the barrier. He got on stage and Kendrick broke into a speech about how depression is real.”

“I can see Logan pouring his heart out because he going through some real shit just like I go through,” Lamar said onstage. “No matter how much motherfucking money, fans, we still hurt. He still hurts.  I don’t know what you’re going through, so it’s only right for me to relate. And just like my man right here, singing the words, you inspired me to make this album To Pimp A Butterfly.”

If that wasn’t amazing enough, the Reddit user goes on to talk about the extent to which Logan has turned his life around since that day. “Since the concert and this everything’s changed. He is serious about losing his weight. He found a great girlfriend. He’s taking school seriously. This has 100 percent been for the best of my brother and I’m so thankful he got the chance to join his idol on stage.”

The story resonated hugely with other Reddit users on the HipHopHeads subreddit, with another user revealing that this was not an isolated incident. User respecteduser posted that at a show in Pemberton in 2015 he witnessed Lamar bring a kid up on stage and give a fan a pair of his shoes.
