In today’s episode of “TikTok is a lawless place and we’re just living in it”, Korn are having a full-blown viral resurgence – and somehow, it’s all thanks to popstar Zara Larsson.
Yep.
The nu-metal titans’ 1998 classic Freak On A Leash is currently popping off across TikTok after fans discovered that its iconic breakdown lines up suspiciously perfectly with a viral dance routine set to Larsson’s 2015 bop Lush Life.
As you do.
The trend traces back to a wholesome main character moment: a young fan invited onstage at a Zara Larsson show in the Netherlands last November, where she performed a choreographed dance to Lush Life. The routine quickly escaped containment (as all good TikTok dances do), spreading across the feeds like wildfire.
Fans soon clocked that if you swap out Lush Life for the breakdown in Freak On A Leash, the BPM sync is basically chef’s kiss. The result? A cursed/blessed crossover where people are hitting cute, upbeat pop choreography… to one of the filthiest nu-metal grooves ever recorded.
Tbh? It kinda slaps.
It’s the latest reminder that TikTok has absolutely zero respect for genre boundaries, timelines, or the sanctity of your teenage angst. One minute you’re doomscrolling, the next you’re watching Gen Z reinvent Korn for the dancefloor.
Not that the band needed much help staying relevant – from their ‘90s dominance through to 2022’s Requiem (their tenth Aussie Top 10 album, no less), Korn have remained a permanent fixture in heavy music’s DNA. Their 2024 Good Things Festival run also proved Aussie fans are still very much ready to lose their minds to Jonathan Davis scatting.
Meanwhile, Zara Larsson is gearing up for her own Aussie return this October – her first in over a decade – with upgraded arena shows thanks to massive demand. So yes, if you had “Korn x Zara Larsson multiverse crossover” on your 2026 bingo card… congrats, you might be psychic.
