The Australian rapper and producer formerly known as Kwame has announced this week that he will hereby be officially known as thatboykwame. The change was addressed on his social media earlier this week (February 19), with a screenshot of his Spotify page reflecting the name change. “The journey begins,” he wrote.
“I’m one of one, there is no-one like me.” This is in reference to the American producer and rapper Kwamé, a Queens artist that came to prominence in the late 80s and early 90s that the Australian Kwame was often mistaken for since his 2016 debut. thatboykwame has now shared his first single under the new moniker, entitled ‘Anecdote’. An accompanying music video has also been shared for the song, which thatboykwame co-directed with editor/director of photography Marcus Sternecker.

2023 saw thatboykwame release two stand-alone singles, ‘Vices’ and ‘Daydream’, in October and December respectively. He also featured on three collaborative singles throughout the year: ‘Steve Jobs’ with 1300, ‘Messed Up’ with Holy Holy (with whom he also went out on tour) and ‘Likkle Drop’ with Benson.
