Laura Marling Launches Podcast Exploring The Lack Of Feminine Presence In The Studio

Laura Marling has launched a 10-part podcast series Reversal Of The Muse which explores the lack of females in the recording studio.

Marling has revealed the first two podcasts, one featuring LA band HAIM and another centring around female sound engineer Vanessa Parr.

The podcast, “explore’s and discusses the lack of feminine presence in the recording studio and ponders if this has any effect on creative output,” as a statement reads on Marling’s Facebook.

“It occurred to me that in ten years of making records I had only come across two female engineers working in studios,” Marling said in a statement about the podcast.

“Starting from my experience of being a woman I began to ask myself what difference it might have made had I had more women around, if any. I wanted to know why progress has been so slow in this area and what effect it would have on music.”

The podcasts is basically a casual chat between Marling and various musicians and creatives about the lack of feminine presence within the studio and their experiences throughout their career. HAIM’s podcast even features an appearance from their producer Ariel Rechtshaid who has also worked with Adele and Madonna.
