Le Butcherettes have performed a fully-clothed rendition of Miley Cyrus’ super-hit Wrecking Ball for their set on The A.V. Club’s Undercover series. Forget the props of overacting in this video with the only hammer in sight being this rad goddamn band.
The choice of song might come at the expense of their ‘indie cred’ to some, but it turns out, in classic La Butcherettes style, there’s more to the story. Vocalist Teri Gender Bender spoke about the decision, explaining that she’s a fan of Cyrus’ recent “unapologetic” and “transformed” self.
Rather than following the classic pop narrative within Wrecking Ball of a lovers tryst, Teri subscribes to a more unorthodox love story – that between a mother and a daughter, something that rang true. “At this time in my life I want to wreck my mother’s walls.” Though she makes sure to add the caveat “I just want you to know I love you.”
Le Butcherettes’ take on Wrecking Ball is a far more furious affair than the original. The tempo has done a line of speed and let its undercut grow out into a faux hawk.
See for yourself.
