Listen: Beck’s 3 New Songs From PS3 Game ‘Sound Shapes’

Last month Music Feeds reported on Beck’s involvement with Playstation 3 game Sound Shapes, a platformer that allows the player to control a strange eye looking thing and somehow creates individualised musical levels. Now that the game is available for purchase, as noted by Consequence of Sound, the songs have quickly made their way online.

The songs contributed by Beck are titled Cities (previously released), Touch the People and Spiral Staircase, and while each of the tracks has a unique feel, they also share a common thread of electro dream pop. Perhaps the most jolting is Touch the People, but it’s still far from what many would consider abrasive. Watching the footage of Sound Shapes, the game certainly looks unconventional and whoever’s playing the Cities level is no expert…

Beck has also recently made waves when news broke that he’ll be releasing his new album Song Reader as a book of sheet music. Comprised of unreleased and unrecorded material, fans will have to attempt to create the music for themselves, with at least one such effort coming from Max Miller in the form of Do We? We Do.

Beck will be in Australia later this year on the Harvest Festival 2012 lineup.
