Listen: Janelle Monáe Releases ‘Q.U.E.E.N.’ Featuring Erykah Badu

Fresh off the back of her Coachella performance, R&B songstress Janelle Monáe has released Q.U.E.E.N. featuring Erykah Badu, the first single from her highly anticipated album, The Electric Lady, the follow-up to her 2010 EP The ArchAndroid.

The Kansas-born neo soul singer is making music that really stands out and Q.U.E.E.N. is no exception, with its fun soul vibe in stark contrast to the dance club sound of most R&B releases of late. 27-year-old Monáe tweeted directions for listening to the song this morning, saying, “Q.U.E.E.N. was inspired by private discussions between Erykah and me. It is meant to make you JAM. DANCE. FUNK OUT. and dialogue later…”

Monáe’s Coachella performance was a standout at the festival, with her high-energy live show including covers of Prince‘s Let’s Go Crazy and Jackson 5‘s One More Chance. The Electric Lady is expected to be released later this year.
