Recently short listed for FBi’s Northern Lights competition, where one lucky artist will be sent to play at Iceland’s Airwaves Festival, Sydney’s Rainbow Chan recently uploaded a cover/reinterpretation of recent Stones Throw signing Jonti’s Firework Spraying Moon, entitled And Then The Sun.
And Then The Sun (Jonti Cover) by Rainbow Chan
A perfect example of her contrastingly cute and brooding sound, Rainbow manages to take what must be one of the sunniest songs to come out this year and turn it into a skittering slice of weirdness without loosing any of the charm of the original. If you’ve not seen her play live before, she uses a loop pedal and an array of instruments including 8-bit synths, glockenspiels, music boxes, thumb piano’s, and above all her amazing voice to craft subtle soundscape pop songs reminiscent of Mum and Bjork, although with a touch of early Grizzly Bear.
Currently working on new material, be sure to head over and vote for her at the Northern Lights website, as voting closes tomorrow.
