Now that they’re back in the swing of things, it looks as though The Strokes are as eager as ever to keep the momentum up. The band have released the first single off a forthcoming album that will follow up 2011’s Angles, which was the first in many years.
One Way Trigger is an interesting glimpse into the album, with sharp synths akin to A-Ha‘s Take On Me, some classic Strokes guitar work, and Julian Casablanca showcasing his range as a vocalist, head register and all – it’s pretty impressive.
Other than that, it’s currently in its beta stage; not much else is known about the album. The band have stated that work began on it about 1 month after they released Angles, which was their first studio effort since a lengthy hiatus.
According to MTV, guitarist Albert Hammond Jr. has emphasised the band’s intentions of taking their own time, stating, “Let’s get songs first and then think about recording”, so it could be a while yet.
However, according to Nikolai Fraiture, they won’t want to take things too slow. “[The Strokes are] trying not to lose momentum by taking time off and having to reboot the whole system,” and added, “Hopefully, we keep that up…We’re bringing in parts and ideas,” Fraiture said, “and kind of just working on those and trying to make sense of them, coming from five different people.”
