The first half of the year has been pretty huge for Byron Bay musician Tones and I. The one-time busker drew wide attention with first two singles ‘Johnny Run Away’ and ‘Dance Monkey’, demonstrating a keen ear for pop melodies and affecting choruses. She’s been something of a triple j success story, racking up millions of streams with those two songs alone.
Now, the indie-pop singer has revealed ‘Never Seen the Rain’, the third single to be shared from her upcoming debut EP, The Kids Are Coming, which she’ll release in August ahead of a sold-out national tour.
“[It’s] about people who live the same repetitive life in fear of failure,” the artist told Triple J. “So, they never try,”
Tones and I will kick off Splendour in the Grass this weekend as one of the Unearthed winners, and will also be appearing in Brisbane as part of BIGSOUND later this year.
