Australian Kasabian fans are well-aware of the UK rockers’ penchant for covering television theme songs, lest we forget their ambitious mash up of the Sesame Street theme for Like A Version. Never ones to limit themselves, Kasabian have now set their sights on the world of film, delivering a cover of the much-loved Ghostbusters theme.
The band recorded their cover of the 1984 Ray Parker Jr song, for US radio station Sirius XM in September and have only made it available online this week, just in time for Halloween.
In a similar fashion to their Sesame Street/Good Vibrations mash up, the band took a stripped-back approach to the cover, even incorporating some localised references to Mike Tyson, Macaulay Culkin, Hulk Hogan and Mickey Rooney.
Perhaps Kasabian are angling for an inclusion on the soundtrack for the forthcoming Ghostbusters 3 movie, a reboot of the classic film that will feature an all-female team of ghost-busting Ghostbusters.
It wouldn’t be an unprecedented move. When the film’s 1989 sequel, Ghostbusters II, was released it featured a remixed version of the classic theme by Run DMC. Watch that one too below, just for fun.
