Rina Sawayama is the latest artist to cover Metallica’s ‘Enter Sandman’ and it’s an absolute treat. It comes as part of The Metallica Blacklist a tribute album where 50+ artists cover tracks from the Black Album.
Rina Sawayama joins a stellar lineup of artists to feature on the tribute album: IDLES, Biffy Clyro, Phoebe Bridgers, Weezer and Miley Cyrus.
Her take on ‘Enter Sandman’ is so good. It keeps all the parts that make the song: that brooding intro, the thunderous percussion throughout, and the sheer energy.
Rina’s soaring vocals add this juxtaposition to the track though. The instrumentals thrash harder than ever before and Rina gives us plenty of grit through her vocals.
Yet somehow, she makes the chorus feel like a pop ballad mixed with an iconic metal thrasher.
