Yarra’s Leaps and Bounds Music Festival is set to honour three renowned Melbourne musicians as part of a “Living Legends” concert series. Kim Salmon (pictured), Spencer P Jones and Charlie Owen, who have all spent time in Aussie super-group Beasts of Bourbon, will each be celebrated separately over three nights at The Tote in Collingwood.

A cast of musicians are set to honour the living legends. The work of Kim Salmon, which has also included stints with The Scientists, Kim Salmon & The Surrealists, Antenna, The Business, The Darling Downs and Salmon, will be celebrated by Gareth Liddiard, Mick Harvey, Dan Kelly, Caroline Kennedy, Brian Hooper and more.

The music of Spencer P Jones, including his work with The Johnnys, Hell to Pay, The Last Gasp, Cow Penalty, The Escape Committee and The Nothing Butts, will be celebrated by Adalita, Dan Brodie, Geoff Corbett, Tom Lyngcoln and many more.

The work of Charlie Owen, including material from Louis Tillet & His Cast of Aspersions, The New Christs, Divinyls and more will be performed by Adalita, Mick Harvey, Joel Silbersher, Dan Kelly, Dan Brodie, Penny Ikinger, Grindhouse and many more.

Calling Salmon, Jones and Owen “rock’n’roll soldiers”, Leaps and Bounds Music Festival say the three “rarely receive the attention they duly deserve” and suggest that “the lack of commercial expectation has allowed them to continue to grow creatively and produce music on their own terms, inspiring and mentoring other musicians”. Right on.

The Leaps and Bounds Music Festival’s “Living Legends” shows will take place at The Tote over one weekend, beginning on Friday, 11th July and finishing up on Sunday, 13th July. The three musicians being honoured will not be performing themselves, but will be in attendance.
