Solange has been quiet for a little while now, but this week she’s been teasing fans with clips, pics and other treats that has everyone believing she’s on the cusp of releasing new music.
Last year, Solange revealed in an interview with The New York Times that an album of hers was likely going to drop in late 2018. However, before the end of the year, she changed her Instagram bio to “prolly next year”, likely meaning it would be 2019 when we received her next album.
Well, 2019 has arrived, and all week she has been offering various forms of teasers. Earlier this week, she announced she had a personalised page on Black Planet, a website that caters to black Americans, and posted a whole array of pictures and texts alluding to…something.
Today, she posted a video on Twitter that is set to some unheard music of hers. Considering that in the NYT interview, it was said that she would drop the album by surprise when “fully formed at some mysterious and unexpected moment, like a meteor cratering into the culture”, fans are surmising that she’ll drop her album on Friday.
Her 2016 masterpiece A Seat At The Table, widely considered the best album of the year alongside her sister Beyoncé’s Lemonade, was also dropped by surprise, so it would make sense that she’d keep that Knowles trend going (Beyoncé dropped 2013’s Beyoncé and 2016’s Lemonade by surprise, as well).
Solange was in Australia last year, where she sold out four absolutely stunning shows at the Sydney Opera House as part of Vivid Live.
