Some of planet Earth’s best and brightest musical talent have fused powers for the 3rd Annual Ally Coalition, an event that aims to raise funding and awareness for LGBTQ youth. This year’s edition saw performances from CHVRCHES Lauren Mayberry, Carly Rae Jepsen, Charli XCX and a surprise appearance from the one-and-only Lorde
Such a lineup was always going to result in magic, and that’s exactly what happened, with a number of gripping covers. Lorde broke her live performance drought to let loose a stirring rendition of Robyn’s Hang With Me, flanked by fun.’s Jack Antonoff.
Mayberry brought new life to both Katy Perry’s Fireworks and Joni Mitchell’s Case of You. Charli XCX performed her original track Boom Clap, as did Carley Rae with Runaway With Me. As the night drew to a close, everyone took to to the stage at once to belt out Fleetwood Mac’s timeless hit Go Your Own Way.
Lorde has been a steel trap in terms of news recently. Around her birthday, she revealed work on her sophomore album was complete, suggesting that the record would be released “soon”.
By the end of the night, more than USD$100K had been raised for the cause according to Antonoff. You can get a glimpse of the one-off proceedings below.
