Lostprophets’ Bandmates “In A State Of Shock” Following Singer’s Child Sex Charges

While many people were understandably quick to write off Lostprophets’ vocalist Ian Watkins after news broke overnight that he had been arrested and charged with child sex offenses, his bandmates have been quick to distance themselves from the same stigma.

According to Blabbermouth, Lee Gaze (guitar), Mike Lewis (guitar), Stuart Richardson (bass), Jamie Oliver (keyboards) and Luke Johnson (drums) have stated that “following charges made today against Ian Watkins, we find ourselves in a state of shock. We are learning about the details of the investigation along with you. It is a difficult time for us and our families, and we want to thank our fans for their support as we seek answers.”

Watkins has apparently been denied bail and has been remanded in custody with two woman facing similar charges. As reported earlier, Watkins was arrested and charged with conspiracy to engage in sexual activity with a minor under 13 years of age, and had allegedly also produced and distributed indecent images of minors. However, Blabbermouth’s latest coverage of the situation has listed the victim as only 1 year of age.

According to The Guardian, Tom Crowther, who is defending Watkins, described his client as looking tired as he and the two co-accused fronted the judge. Crowther has also made it clear that they will be denying the charges. The group has had to cancel tour plans as Watkins will be in custody until at least December 31st.

Lostprophets had their heyday back in 2006 when their album Liberation Transmission topped the UK charts.
