Lou Reed Loves ‘Yeezus’ (Except The Bits That Sound Like Farts)

Former Velvet Underground frontman Lou Reed has professed his undying love for Kanye West – well, for Yeezy’s latest studio effort Yeezus anyway, saying that there are “moments of supreme beauty and greatness on this record”.

The Walk On The Wild Side singer reviewed the record for The Talkhouse and, surprisingly, he absolutely loves it:

“There are moments of supreme beauty and greatness on this record, and then some of it is the same old shit. But the guy really, really, really is talented. He’s really trying to raise the bar. No-one’s near doing what he’s doing, it’s not even on the same planet.”

He also described album number 8 from Ye as “like a movie or novel” and praised his use of minimalism, comparing the experimental aspects of Yeezus to his own album Metal Machine Music.

But it’s not all roses – Reed’s not quite sure about the farty bits:

“But why he starts the album off with that typical synth buzzsaw sound is beyond me, but what a sound it is, all gussied up and processed. I can’t figure out why he would do that. It’s like farting. It’s another dare — I dare you to like this. Very perverse.”

Reed recently underwent a liver transplant, with his wife Laurie Anderson revealing that the 71-year-old was close to death but has made an excellent recovery. Hopefully he’s feeling up to a collaborative effort with Mr West – now, that would be seriously weird and awesome.
