Australia’s beloved soul-pop icon, Marcia Hines is gearing up to celebrate her 50-plus years of performance with a monumental tour titled ‘Still Shining’ in 2024.
The tour will begin at Mandurah’s Mandurah Performing Arts on Thursday, 8th August, followed by Gippsland’s West Gippsland Arts Centre on Friday, 25th October, and will conclude at Geelong’s Playhouse.
Marcia Hines – ‘I Don’t Know How To Love Him’
Marcia Hines, originally from Boston, made her mark in Australian music history after debuting at 16 years old. Her journey began when she starred in the Australian production of the musical ‘Hair’. Following this, she took on the role of Mary Magdalene in ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ until 1974.
Joining the Daly-Wilson Big Band, Marcia Hines toured extensively across Australia, the USA, and Russia. In July 1974, she ventured into a solo career, releasing albums that soared in popularity, earning her the title of Australia’s Queen of Pop from 1976 to 1978.
Throughout the late ’70s, Hines dominated the charts with several Top Ten hits, including covers of classics like James Taylor’s “Fire and Rain” and Burt Bacharach/Hal David’s “I Just Don’t Know What to Do with Myself”. Her albums, such as “Shining” and “Live Across Australia”, successfully sold hundreds of thousands of copies.
Marcia Hines’ enduring legacy in Australian music was further cemented with the release of her fully authorized biography, “Diva: The Life of Marcia Hines”, in 2001. Throughout her career, she has dazzled audiences with her remarkable talent and inspired countless aspiring artists with her resilience and passion for music.
